When Aysia first called me, I was in a funk and not wanting to do much photography. Then Aysia called me. She called me right out of my funk and into her story. Imagine this, a couple so filled with love and so ready for children, had to go through extraordinary measures to get pregnant and then lose a set of twins at 20 weeks. Then imagine that they get pregnant again, with another set of twins AND due to be delivered on the arrival date of the last set of twins. Imagine. Imagine being so scared to declare this second pregnancy, that you kept it secret until you are in the hospital about to deliver. Imagine.

So I had to go, I went to see Aysia and Mark in her hospital room where she was being confined to bed due to premature labor. Where she had basically been confined for two pregnancies in a row. I came back from this visit transformed and renewed. Their spirit lifted everyone around. Here are there photographs from her hospital room maternity session:

I had to make this post today. It’s a story of a mother, daughter and even a grandmother. It’s a simple story, just a young woman picking up her wedding dress, making sure it fits correctly before she takes it with her. Her wedding is next weekend. Her grandmother and mother are along with her when she tries the dress on:

simple, right? Look at her face, filled with joy and excitement, the disbelief that this is her beautiful dress that she will be wearing in a week when her life changes forever. Now, look at her mom:

Looking at her mom, I can only imagine the emotions and thoughts running through her mind. Thoughts that began when that baby girl was born. Thoughts from when she tried on her dress. The grandmother is there too, perhaps thinking of the day she wore her dress, the day her daughter wore her dress, the day her daughter was born.

The young woman looks up as she shows off the beautiful lace train on her gown and sees the “W’ on the wall and says, “that will be my monogram”. Next week, her last name will begin with “W”

Truly she is thrilled to be at this point:

Delighting over the simple victory of sitting properly in the beautiful gown.

Here’s all my best wishes Lauren, for a beautiful wedding and a wonderful marriage.

One of the really great thing about being a family photographer, is that you become witness to so many wonderful love stories out there. I didn’t need to hear their story to know how wonderful this couple’s is, but it is a very cool story.

Although I like to do make beautiful solo maternity photographs (and I was VERY pleased with this one),

I like to put a special emphasis on documenting connection and relationships. I want my families to remember how they felt when these photographs were taken. Sometimes, couples can be hesitant to express their feelings in front of a camera, but not this one. They welcomed any excuse to cuddle up and love on each other. The title of this post is inspired by the song that I couldn’t stop hearing as I photographed them, “I’m Yours” by Jason Mraz

Thank you J & J and I can’t wait to photograph your newborn–whenever he or she decides to arrive.

Okay, I admit it, I’ve been REALLY bad about making blog posts for a while now. I’ve started to post a lot of images to facebook and you can find me there, but I prefer the image quality here. SO, from now on, I will make the blog posts here and post a link from my facebook page to here.

So with no further ado, I give you J!

First off! I just loved Dad and J here. I love how newborns start mimicing their parents’ expression early on and this is a really fun one.

Daddy and newborn

Then there is the otherworldy expression of the new baby:

Otherworldly newborn expression

And of course mother and new baby:

Mother and newborn baby
